Why is TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating easier to care for?
This new lens coating system from SOLA utilizes a unique formula that stays cleaner longer and makes the lenses easier to wipe clean. TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating offers built-in ultra-tough scratch resistance to reduce day-to-day wear and tear, a unique anti-static material that reduces the need for frequent cleaning, and a premium top coat having water and oil repellent properties.

Is TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating only an AR coating?
No. TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating actually eliminates reflections more efficiently than leading AR coatings. But because TeflonŽ Easycare coating is an advanced, integrated coating system, AR performance is only one aspect of the product's benefits. TeflonŽ EasyCare also delivers scratch resistance that is equivalent to leading hard coatings. Plus, it combines a unique anti-static formula with a surface that repels water and oil. As a result, lenses with TeflonŽ EasyCare stay clean longer, and are easier to clean when cleaning is necessary.

Why are the residual reflections Arctic Blue?
Residual reflections were engineered to Artic Blue because this color is in an area of the visible spectrum to which the human eye is not very sensitive. As a result, the lens has less distracting residual reflection and the overall clarity of the lens is increased. The intensity of the reflection is about half when compared to leading AR coatings. In terms of wearer comfort, ghost images and internal reflections are two times less visible than with conventional AR-coated lenses, and ten times less visible than with non-coated lenses.

Is TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating really TeflonŽ?
Yes. This coating is the ophthalmic lens application of Teflon. DuPont has granted the TeflonŽ name to TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating because it fulfills the TeflonŽ promise of protection, convenience and performance.
No other lens coating has ever earned the TeflonŽ name.

Is the coating the same as the TeflonŽ used in other consumer applications?
No. The TeflonŽ formula varies from application to application. The performance requirements of a lens coating are different from the performance requirements of a cookware coating. The TeflonŽ on cookware, for instance, is not the TeflonŽ that delivers stain protection on clothing. What is consistent among all products in the TeflonŽ family is that they meet a specific performance promise: protection, convenience and performance.

The coating was developed by SOLA's Research and Development team in conjunction with the resources of the DuPont organization.

How many "layers" is the TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating integrated coating system?
The number of layers is varied according to the substrate material to ensure the integrated coating stack is optimized for performance on each substrate.

Is TeflonŽ EasyCare Lens Coating hydrophobic and oleophobic (repels oil)?
Yes, a hydrophobic topcoat is applied to provide water and oil-repellent properties to the lens surface. Droplets simply run off, leaving the surface clean and clear. The topcoat contains a unique combination of oil, dust and water repellent properties.
